Isiala-Mbano, Imo State – In a tragic attack on Tuesday night, unknown gunmen stormed the headquarters of Isiala-Mbano Local Government Area in Imo State, killing two vigilante members guarding the premises. The assailants also set several vehicles and parts of the council’s building on fire.

According to reports, the gunmen arrived at the secretariat at approximately 8:30 p.m. and opened fire indiscriminately, leading to the death of the two security guards on duty. Eyewitnesses confirmed that the assailants not only targeted the guards but also set ablaze a significant portion of the council building and numerous cars parked within the premises.

"Two security men were shot dead at the Isiala-Mbano council headquarters," said one witness. "The attackers also caused extensive damage, torching vehicles and the council building. Many people sustained injuries as they fled the scene in fear."

The incident has caused widespread panic in Umuelemai, the local government headquarters, with many residents reportedly fleeing to nearby villages for safety.

The Imo State Police Command spokesperson, Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident and assured that tactical teams had been deployed to track down the culprits. "The command is working tirelessly to apprehend those behind this heinous act," he stated.

The attack adds to the growing concerns about insecurity in the region, where violent incidents targeting government facilities have become increasingly frequent. Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
