Chief Obinna Oriaku, a former Commissioner for Finance in Abia State, has issued a formal demand for the retraction of alleged defamatory statements made against him by Kenneth C. Ahia (SAN). The allegations, reportedly circulated within a closed WhatsApp group known as “Concerned Abians,” have prompted Oriaku’s legal team to seek immediate corrective actions to address the perceived damage to his reputation.
The letter obtained by www.nwokeukwumascot.com, authored by Oriaku’s legal representatives, highlighted several statements attributed to Ahia, including claims that Oriaku engaged in blackmail and misuse of confidential government information, He was accused of being a saboteur, unworthy of collaboration or trust, Allegations that he harassed individuals he had dealings with in the past and Claims of theft and circulation of confidential government information to bloggers.
These remarks, the letter asserts, were maliciously designed to tarnish Oriaku’s social, political, and professional standing among his peers, family, and the broader public. In the letter, Oriaku’s legal team demanded the following actions within seven days of receipt:
1. A public retraction of the alleged defamatory statements, published in at least three national dailies with circulation in Abia State.
2. A formal apology to be issued and published on the “Concerned Abians” WhatsApp group and other platforms where the statements were circulated.
3. Proof of compliance with these demands to be submitted to Oriaku’s legal counsel.
The legal team warned that failure to comply with these demands would result in, Filing a defamation lawsuit against Ahia, Seeking injunctive reliefs to prevent further dissemination of the alleged defamatory statements and Pursuing damages for harm caused to Oriaku’s reputation.
According to the letter, the alleged statements have irreparably damaged Oriaku’s reputation, with members of the “Concerned Abians” group and the larger community viewing him as a person lacking integrity. The legal team emphasized that these statements have significantly lowered the public’s estimation of Oriaku, causing social and professional harm.
This development underscores the increasing scrutiny of public discourse in digital spaces, particularly as it pertains to prominent figures in Abia State. As the deadline for compliance approaches, the outcome of this legal demand will likely shape the narrative surrounding the case and the individuals involved.
