NNPC Denounces Viral Video on Dangote Refinery’s Petrol, Threatens Legal Action(VIDEO) | #NwokeukwuMascot

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has dismissed claims made in a viral video alleging that petrol sourced from Dangote Refinery and sold by MRS Oil lasts longer than that sold at NNPC fuel stations.
The video, which has been widely circulated on social media, features a Nigerian man using two small “tiger generators,” commonly referred to as I better pass my neighbour in Nigeria, to compare the running time of petrol obtained from MRS and NNPC fuel stations. In his demonstration, he claimed that petrol refined by Dangote and sold by MRS Oil not only lasted 13 minutes longer but was also more affordable than the PMS available at NNPC stations.
In response, NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, issued a statement debunking the claim, describing it as misleading and aimed at misinforming the public. He emphasized that NNPC formulates its petrol using one of the best compositions to ensure optimal efficiency, durability, and environmental sustainability.
“Furthermore, it is important to emphasize that a significant percentage of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) sold at NNPC retail stations in Lagos—where this deceptive video was created—is sourced from the Dangote Refinery, a strategic partner in promoting local production and energy security,” the statement read.
Soneye also assured consumers that the Dangote Refinery adheres to strict industry standards, ensuring the quality of petroleum products supplied to the market.

Describing the viral video as a desperate attempt by “economic saboteurs” to tarnish NNPC’s reputation, the company warned that it would no longer tolerate deliberate misinformation aimed at undermining its operations.
“Henceforth, NNPC Ltd will take firm legal action against individuals or groups who intentionally spread falsehoods about our brand and operations. Those engaged in such malicious activities will be held fully accountable under the law,” the statement added.
NNPC urged Nigerians to disregard the misleading claims and rely on verified information from credible sources.
