…Challenges Nenadi Usman to Explain EFCC Plea Bargain, Declares No Interest in Coalition Talks | #NwokeukwuMascot

In a dramatic turn of events confirming earlier reports by this platform, the Labour Party has officially slammed an indefinite suspension on the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, along with five other high-profile members over allegations of anti-party activities.

The party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), following an exhaustive review of the findings of its five-man Disciplinary Committee established on May 2, 2025, ratified the suspension during a meeting held today, May 7, 2025. The committee was chaired by the Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, and included the National Secretary, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, among others.

In a press release signed by Alhaji Ibrahim, the Labour Party announced the immediate and indefinite suspension of the following members:

  1. Dr. Alex Otti – Governor of Abia State
  2. Senator Ireti Kingibe
  3. Senator Darlington Nwokocha
  4. Hon. Victor Afam Ogene
  5. Hon. Amobi Ogah
  6. Hon. Seyi Sowunmi

“These individuals are no longer recognized as representatives or agents of the Labour Party in any capacity,” the statement read. “All concerned institutions including the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, National Assembly, INEC, and security agencies are hereby notified.”

The party’s disciplinary action comes amid growing internal dissent and accusations of betrayal against the party’s core values and interests especially as preparations for the 2027 elections begin to take shape.

Meanwhile, the statement took a swipe at Nenadi Usman, a prominent supporter of the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, whose name had circulated in some quarters as being under scrutiny. The party, however, clarified that Usman is not a registered member of the Labour Party and, as such, was not subject to any form of internal disciplinary action.

“She is a known member of the Obidient support group, not a card-carrying member of our party,” the statement clarified. “We will not dignify her with sanctions.”

However, the party did not hold back in addressing what it described as Usman’s lack of moral standing, particularly in light of her past corruption allegations.

“It is ironic that someone like Nenadi Usman speaks of corruption,” the statement said. “She should explain her plea bargain with the EFCC, the assets she allegedly forfeited, and how she acquired properties including her radio station in Kaduna and companies in Cameroon.”

The Labour Party also used the opportunity to address recent speculations about a possible coalition or merger with other political parties ahead of the 2027 elections. The party reaffirmed its position against any such alliance, declaring that it will stand alone in the next general elections.

“The proponents of a coalition lack the integrity and competence to lead such an arrangement,” the statement emphasized. “Labour Party remains focused on its mission and will prosecute the 2027 general elections independently.”

The press release marks a significant shake-up within the Labour Party and signals a bold move by the leadership to reassert internal discipline while distancing itself from actors it deems disloyal or unfit for its progressive vision.
