Speaking during a monitored television program on Wednesday in Abuja, Dr. Uzoma hailed the Tinubu-led government’s strategic investments in agriculture, emphasizing that the results are already transforming Nigeria’s food security landscape.
“Through the African Food Security Emergency Support Programme, over 500,000 farmers have benefited from subsidized fertilizer and seed inputs, resulting in a marked boost in productivity,” he revealed.
He added that the Irrigate Nigeria project an ambitious initiative aimed at providing irrigation for five million hectares of farmland is reducing the country’s reliance on rainfall and cushioning the effects of climate change on crop yield.
Dr. Uzoma further noted that one of the administration’s most ambitious targets is the establishment of structured, government-led, private-sector-driven agribusiness organizations in each of Nigeria’s 774 local government areas. These structures, he said, will have access to low-interest financing facilities designed to drive productivity at the grassroots.
“The Tinubu administration believes that within the first ten years of the Green Imperative Project, which has been relaunched with renewed vigor, Nigeria will witness a significant leap in food production,” he said. “This will stabilize food supply, enhance export potential, and accelerate economic diversification.”
Highlighting tangible outcomes already recorded, Dr. Uzoma pointed to falling prices of key staples like rice, maize, and ginger as early indicators of the administration’s success.
“We’ve increased wheat production in this country by more than tenfold,” he said. “In fact, we’re now lobbying Flour Mills of Nigeria to buy more wheat from our local farmers, something that was unimaginable just a few years ago.”
He reiterated that the administration’s comprehensive support, ranging from equipment supply to input subsidies is laying the foundation for a more resilient and prosperous agricultural sector. “In the coming months, Nigerians will feel these benefits directly on their kitchen tables,” he assured.
