Otti’s Visit to Tinubu Was Purely About His Political Survival Not Nnamdi Kanu | #NwokeukwuMascot

Fresh revelations have further punctured the narrative circulated by Governor Alex Otti’s media team regarding his recent visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. While they attempted to suggest that the governor’s trip to Aso Rock was centred on the plight of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, credible information now shows the visit had nothing to do with the imprisoned IPOB leader and everything to do with Otti’s own political future.

This misleading narrative was amplified after Governor Otti made a highly publicised visit to Nnamdi Kanu at the Sokoto Correctional Centre, where the IPOB leader is currently serving a controversial life sentence handed down by the Omotosho led Abuja High Court. The visit, strategically timed, was widely interpreted by political observers as a decoy designed to confuse the public and create an emotional atmosphere ahead of the governor’s trip to Abuja.

According to authoritative sources, the sudden emphasis on Kanu’s situation was a deliberate attempt to generate sympathy and divert attention from the governor’s true mission. The sequence of events starting with the Sokoto prison visit and followed immediately by a meeting with the President was viewed as a carefully orchestrated distraction.

In reality, what transpired inside Aso Rock had no connection to Nnamdi Kanu.

It remains on record that the meeting marks only the second time Governor Otti has secured a private audience with President Tinubu since May 29, 2023. The first was facilitated by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State governor shortly after the election tribunal judgment, despite Otti’s repeated claims of closeness to the President. Their relationship has been far from warm.

Over the past year, several invitations extended to Tinubu to visit Abia State were cancelled at the last minute, with lower ranking officials dispatched instead. This pattern, widely viewed as an embarrassment, further highlighted the strained relationship between the two leaders.

Given this frosty history, it was not surprising that Otti’s aides celebrated Monday’s meeting privately. Their excitement had nothing to do with any breakthrough for Nnamdi Kanu but rather the political significance of finally gaining access to the President after numerous unsuccessful attempts.

Insiders revealed that Otti used the meeting to pledge loyalty and express support for President Tinubu’s re election bid in 2027. The governor reportedly assured Tinubu of his commitment to aligning politically with him ahead of the next electoral cycle, a claim that sharply contradicts the public narrative pushed by his handlers.

More importantly, Otti is said to have informed the President of his intention to reposition his political career away from the Labour Party.

For months, rumours have circulated that the Abia governor has been exploring a move to the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA. Recent confirmations from APGA leaders that overtures have indeed been made only strengthened these speculations.

Sources disclosed that Otti’s visit to the Villa was partly to brief the President on his planned defection to APGA and to seek strategic backing for this political move. This shift would effectively abandon Mr Peter Obi and the Obidient movement that propelled him to victory in 2023.

Analysts argue that the emerging facts make the situation clear. Governor Otti’s visit to President Tinubu had nothing to do with Nnamdi Kanu’s ordeal. It was a calculated step for his own political survival and realignment ahead of 2027.
