Students Gear Up for Thrilling Semi-Finals in Obingwa-West Debate Contest Today | #NwokeukwuMascot

The Obingwa-West School Debate Contest 2025
, sponsored by the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Service in the Abia State House of Assembly, Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr, has entered its semi-final stage after a series of intense preliminary rounds marked by narrow victories and surprising upsets.



The maiden edition of the tournament, which brings together secondary schools across the region, aims to promote academic excellence, teamwork, and healthy competition among students. Over the past weeks, contestants have demonstrated remarkable eloquence, confidence, and mastery of argumentation.



In one of the most closely contested matches, Amaise Community Secondary School, Ukpakiri, led by Master Monday WithGod, scored 396 points (66 percent) to edge out Akanu Community Secondary School, captained by Chima Goodness Amarachi, which scored 383 points (63.8 percent).



Ahiaba High School also secured a spot in the semi-finals after scoring 393 points (63.4 percent) under the leadership of Miss Innocent Maanah, defeating Umuaro Community Secondary School, which finished with 256 points (42.6 percent).

Comprehensive Secondary School, Mgboko Itungwa, led by Miss Iheukwumere Goodgift Chinaza, earned its place in the next round with a 377-point (62.8 percent) victory over Holy Family Secondary School, led by Miss Chiemela Happiness, which scored 349 points (58.1 percent). In an unexpected twist, Osusu Amaukwa Community Secondary School advanced automatically following the refusal of Osaa Ukwu Community Secondary School to participate despite several calls to compete.



The semi-final fixtures scheduled for today, December 5, 2025, promise a gripping showdown. Amaise Community Secondary School will trade words with Osusu Amaukwa Community Secondary School, while Comprehensive Secondary School, Mgboko Itungwa, will battle Ahiaba High School for a place in the final.



Speaking ahead of the contest, Master Monday WithGod expressed confidence in his team. In his words, “We have trained hard and studied together. Our aim is to reach the finals and bring the trophy home.”




Students from Comprehensive Secondary School also reaffirmed their resolve to give their best as the stakes rise.



With excitement building across the participating communities, organizers and spectators eagerly look forward to a compelling display of intellect, strategy, and teamwork as these young scholars vie for the prestigious championship trophy and prizes.
