Abia State Government Reverses Order Sacking All Medical Doctors following confrontation by Nigerian Medical Association | #NwokeukwuMascot

After the confrontation by Nigerian Medical Association with the Abia State Government over the initial order sacking all the doctors employed by the state ministry of health and directing them to reapply on or before Friday 21st July 2023, and following public outcry and condemnation of the act which many described as insensitive, the Commisioner for health  Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo has come out to deny the state governments action stating that the state government never sacked or directed medical doctors under the employ of the ministry of health to reapply.

According to the Commissioner the individual, "Dr. Hemuka Rock Biale" who allegedly signed the circular attached to the story is unknown to her nor any agency under the health ministry. "If such a fellow exists, he clearly does not have my permission to speak on any official matter regarding the Ministry," she stated.

An investigation by the Newsmen revealed that in compliance to the Directive of Governor Alex Otti, Deaconess Franca Ekwueme, the suspended Permanent Secretary handed over to the Ag. Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Hemuka Rock who is the most senior Director in the Ministry, raising doubts as to the claim by the states commissioner for health Dr Okoronkwo that Dr. Hemuka is unknown to her and that she is not in the know of the circular sacking medical doctors under the ministry of health.

In the mean time the Commissioner has described it as a rumour even though an official memo has been served to all the medical doctors in the ministry of health, she advised the affected medical doctors and members of the general public to ignore such a rumour and support the various initiatives of the state government aimed at driving a holistic health care delivery for the state.
