Abia: Court of Appeal Upholds Election of Chief Chijioke Uruakpa as House of Assembly Member for Ugwunagbo State Constituency | #NwokeukwuMascot

Lagos, Nigeria - In a landmark ruling today, the Court of Appeal in Lagos upheld the election victory of Hon Chief Chijioke Uruakpa as the House of Assembly member for Ugwunagbo State Constituency. The court dismissed the petition filed by Mr Iheanacho Wabara of the Labour Party, citing a lack of merit.

The ruling comes after a long and contentious legal battle that followed the general elections held earlier this year. Mr Wabara, who contested the election against Hon Chief Chijioke Uruakpa, had challenged the outcome, alleging irregularities and electoral malpractices.

However, after carefully reviewing the evidence presented before it, the Court of Appeal determined that Mr Wabara’s petition lacked merit and upheld the decision of the lower tribunal, which had earlier affirmed Hon Chief Chijioke Uruakpa’s victory.

The three-member panel of the Court of Appeal delivered the unanimous judgment. The led Justice stated, “After a thorough examination of the evidence and arguments presented by both parties, we have found no substantial evidence to support the petitioner’s claims of irregularities. Therefore, we affirm the decision of the lower tribunal and uphold the election of Hon Chief Chijioke Uruakpa.”

Following the ruling, supporters of Hon Chief Chijioke Uruakpa erupted in celebration, waving PDP banners and chanting slogans in support of their elected representative. Hon Chief Chijioke Uruakpa expressed his gratitude to the judiciary for upholding justice and ensuring that the will of the people prevailed.

“I am grateful to the Court of Appeal for their fair and just ruling. This victory is not just for me but for the people of Ugwunagbo State Constituency who have placed their trust in me to represent their interests and aspirations,” Hon Chief Chijioke Uruakpa said in a statement.

He further added, “Now that this legal battle is behind us, I am fully committed to fulfilling my campaign promises and working tirelessly for the betterment of our constituency. I will continue to prioritize the needs of our people and strive to bring positive change to our community.”

The ruling by the Court of Appeal brings an end to the legal battle over the Ugwunagbo State Constituency seat. Hon Chief Chijioke Uruakpa can now focus on fulfilling his duties as the elected representative, while Mr Wabara continues his pursuit of justice through the legal system.
