The Supreme Court has fixed Thursday 21st of December for the hearing of the Kano Governorship Election Appeal between Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party NNPP and Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a notice from the registrar of the Apex Court sent to counsels of both parties and obtained by The Guardian, the Court will hear the appeal of NNPP and cross-appeals of other parties.

Governor Yusuf is challenging the judgment of three panels of the Court of Appeal which nullified his victory and upheld the ruling of the election petition tribunal.

The Justice Osedebay-led petition tribunal declared the APC candidate, Nasiru Gawuna, the winner of the March Governorship poll in Kano.

The appeal court dismissed the appeal filed by Governor Yusuf based on his membership status in his party and faulted the tribunal for omitting the ground in her judgment.

The tribunal had sacked Governor Yusuf based on the use of illegal ballot papers found not signed, dated, or stamped by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

There was confusion in the entire trial as the NNPP discovered evidence where the CTC of the court of appeal which affirmed Governor Yusuf as winner of the election, a contradiction to what was read by the Justices of the court.
