Unidentified gunmen have abducted Professor Godwin Emezue, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Abia State University Uturu (ABSU), in a shocking incident that took place at a filling station in Umuekwule, Amachara, Umuahia South Local Government Area.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the esteemed university professor and his wife had stopped at the fuel station to refill their tank when they were approached by at least three armed men. The assailants forcefully seized Prof. Emezue and forcibly placed him inside a waiting Lexus SUV. To make matters worse, they also took his wife's ATM card before swiftly fleeing the scene.

Heartbroken and terrified, Prof. Emezue's wife revealed that the kidnappers sped away in the direction of the Imo-Abia border, heading towards the bustling Malaysian market area.

The incident has left the community in a state of shock, raising concerns about the safety and security of residents. The academic community, in particular, is deeply disturbed by the incident, as one of their prominent figures has fallen victim to this brazen act of crime.

Despite the gravity of the situation, the Abia State Police Command has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident. This has caused anxiety among the public, who are anxiously awaiting updates and hoping for swift action to secure the release of Prof. Emezue and bring the abductors to justice.

Abia State University Uturu has long been recognized for its contributions to educational development in Nigeria. The kidnapping of such a high-ranking official has underscored the urgent need to address the prevailing security challenges and bolster efforts to combat crime in the state.

Authorities and security agencies are urged to work collaboratively to expedite investigations and take decisive action against the criminal elements responsible for this reprehensible act.
