Abuja - President Bola Tinubu is currently engaged in an emergency meeting with the leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to address the pressing issues of hardship faced by Nigerians. The meeting, taking place at the Aso Rock Villa, is expected to play a decisive role in the planned nationwide protests.

In light of the upcoming nationwide protests scheduled for tomorrow, February 27, and Wednesday, February 28, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has warned the government against any form of violence towards its members and protesters. The NLC emphasizes that any attack on their peaceful procession will result in a total shutdown of the economy.

The decision to organize the nationwide protest stems from the economic challenges currently affecting Nigerians. The NLC issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Nigerian Government, demanding action to alleviate the widespread hardship.

However, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, (SAN) have urged the NLC to reconsider its proposed nationwide protest. Additionally, in response to the escalating hardship, rising inflation, and the high cost of living, the Take It Back Movement, a human rights group, staged a protest in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria. The protest aimed to draw attention to the government's indifference towards the plight of Nigerians.

It is important to note that any form of violent protest has been strongly discouraged by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade. Despite this, protesters in Lagos were seen peacefully demonstrating and expressing their concerns about the deteriorating economic situation. They highlighted the policies of the administration of President Bola Tinubu as contributing to the current challenges.
