In a heartfelt statement signed by the Abia PDP Vice Chairman and Acting State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Elder Abraham Amah, the Abia State chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed deep condolences to Governor Dr. Alex Otti, the government, and the people of Abia State, as well as the Nigerian Army and the families of the slain soldiers, following the tragic incident that occurred in Obikabia, Aba.

The statement issued by Rt. Hon. Dr. Allwell Asiforo Okere, State Chairman of the Abia PDP, on behalf of the State Working Committee (SWC), the enlarged State Executive Committee (SEC), stakeholders, and the entire Abia PDP family.

The regrettable incident took place yesterday, resulting in the deaths of five gallant soldiers of the Nigerian Army who were on active duty. Preliminary reports suggest that two of the fallen soldiers were esteemed sons of Abia State. The attack was perpetrated by unknown gunmen, adding to the growing concerns over security in the region.

"The loss of these brave soldiers is deeply saddening, particularly as they were diligently working to maintain peace and stability in our society," Dr. Okere stated. "Their dedication to their duty in these challenging times is commendable, and their sacrifice must not be in vain."

In light of this tragic event, the Abia PDP has urged Governor Otti to engage in peaceful dialogue with the Nigerian Army to prevent further escalation of violence. The party emphasized the importance of ensuring that innocent citizens do not become collateral damage in the ongoing conflict between the military and non-state actors.

“The Abia PDP calls on the governor to engage peacefully with the Nigerian Army to ensure that this sad incident does not escalate and consume more souls as we have already seen some innocent citizens caught in the crossfires between the Army and non-state actors.”

The Abia PDP also appealed to the residents of Abia State to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding during this period of mourning. They called on the community to avoid actions that could exacerbate the already tense situation.

“We also call the good people of Abia State to be cautious and remain peaceful and law abiding during this sad period, and at other times, and avoid actions capable of fueling the already tense situation.”

Addressing the Nigerian Army, the PDP extended their heartfelt condolences and urged the military to act judiciously in apprehending the perpetrators. They stressed the importance of safeguarding innocent lives while pursuing justice for their fallen comrades.

Additionally, the party called on the military high command to provide adequate support and care for the families of the deceased soldiers. "The families of these heroes, especially their widows and children, deserve our utmost support and care. They have paid the ultimate price for the nation, and we must ensure they are not left to suffer," Dr. Okere added.

Concluding their statement, the Abia PDP expressed their prayers for the souls of the fallen heroes, hoping they find peace in the bosom of the Lord. PDP: Power to the People!
