Masters of Deception, Twisting Facts and Hiding Failures by N Mascot Nnamdi (Evidences) | #NwokeukwuMascot
A recent 5-minute documentary produced by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under Governor Alex Otti’s administration has surfaced, filled with misleading claims and deliberate distortions. What was presented as a showcase of achievements is, upon closer inspection, a thinly veiled attempt to obscure the administration’s shortcomings and failures.
One of the most glaring issues in the documentary is the misrepresentation of the Aba Town Hall. The images shown are not from May 2023, as claimed, but rather from the aftermath of the End SARS riots. This was a deliberate attempt to obscure the substantial renovations carried out by the previous administration.
However, In October 2020, tragedy struck when the End SARS protests spiraled into violence, leading to the destruction of the Aba Town Hall, along with other buildings within the Aba South Local Government area.
By late 2022, restoration efforts saw the hall’s roof and windows replaced under the Ebere Clinton administration. The Bob Wogu administration contributed by repainting the exterior of the hall, a commendable but minor addition in comparison to the previous work done. While Wogu’s efforts are worth acknowledging, repainting alone does not justify discrediting the contributions of past administrations, nor can it take credit for the significant efforts that were already made to restore the hall.
This deliberate effort to erase past contributions reflects the current administration’s desperation to claim credit for work they did not do.
A particularly bold falsehood in the documentary is the claim that Otti’s administration allocated 5% of JAAC (Joint Account Allocation Committee) funds to enhance the salaries of traditional rulers. While there was a brief attempt to raise their pay, it quickly deteriorated, with some traditional rulers receiving as little as ₦3,600 in December 2023. This paltry sum is an affront to our traditional leaders and starkly contrasts with the administration’s inflated promises.
To break it down, 5% of an average ₦5 billion monthly JAAC allocation amounts to ₦250 million. However, there is no evidence to support the claim that traditional rulers have been paid this amount. The numbers simply don’t match the rhetoric, and the ongoing deception has only deepened public distrust in the government.
Furthermore, the administration has yet to account for over ₦40 billion that has accumulated in the 17 local governments since June 2023, after factoring in salaries and pensions. This enormous sum has seemingly disappeared without proper explanation, raising serious concerns about financial transparency.
Even the much-publicized JAAC building, which Otti’s team tries to claim as an achievement, was in fact started by the previous administration and completed by Okezie Ikpeazu’s government. Simply adding air conditioning, landscaping, or furniture to a nearly completed project does not justify taking full credit.

Governor Otti’s administration appears more focused on rewriting history than delivering genuine progress. By distorting facts, ignoring the efforts of previous administrations, and failing to fulfill key promises, they are doing a disservice to the people of Abia.
These lies and deceptions are not just a failure of leadership but an intentional effort to cover up incompetence with propaganda. It’s time to see through the façade and hold the government accountable for its actions—or lack thereof.
