The People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has confirmed its participation in the upcoming local government elections, set for November 2, 2024. This announcement was made by the Chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee, Rt. Hon. Allwell Asiforo Okere, during a stakeholders' meeting at the party's secretariat in Umuahia.

In his remarks, Asiforo reiterated PDP’s enduring influence in Abia politics, referring to the party as the "beautiful bride" and the one to beat in the forthcoming elections. He urged party members interested in contesting the election to visit the party secretariat to obtain their nomination and expression of interest forms.

According to reports, the nomination form for chairmanship candidates is priced at ₦200,000, while the form for councilorship candidates costs ₦25,000. In a bid to promote female participation, women candidates are entitled to pay only 50% of the form fees.

This election marks the second time the PDP will be contesting local government polls in Abia State as an opposition party.

Further details regarding the party’s campaign strategy and candidate selection process are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks as preparations for the November election gather momentum.
