In a statement signed by his media aide, George Egejuru, and made available to newsmen on Monday, Hon. Erondu Jnr described children as “the most treasured asset of our future,” urging urgent attention to the challenges facing them, both nationally and globally.
He highlighted growing concerns such as child labour, abuse, lack of access to quality education, and mental health issues, noting that children today face a rapidly evolving world marred by poverty, displacement, digital threats, and climate-induced insecurities.
“We cannot afford to pay lip service to their needs. It is our moral and legislative duty to protect, nurture, and empower them,” he said.
The lawmaker representing Obingwa-West State Constituency reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to advancing legislation and policy initiatives that safeguard the rights and welfare of children in Abia State.
Expressing concern over the estimated 18.3 million out-of-school children in Nigeria, the former Chairman of Obingwa Local Government Area urged governments and relevant stakeholders to intensify efforts in expanding access to education especially in rural and underserved communities at little or no cost to vulnerable families.
Hon. Erondu Jnr, who also once served as a Director of Enyimba FC, emphasized the importance of strategic collaboration between government agencies, civil society organizations, and the private sector in shaping a future where every child can thrive and realize their potential.
He further disclosed plans to scale up his Child Empowerment Programme, a constituency-based initiative aimed at reaching and supporting more vulnerable children across Obingwa-West and beyond.
The Uhie-born legislator extended warm wishes to children in Nigeria and around the world, urging all Nigerians to play active roles in building a society where every child regardless of their background has equal opportunities to dream, learn, and succeed
