…“I hold no grudge, no personal injury done to me” – Ikpeazu |#NwokeukwuMascot
In a bold move signaling political reconciliation and renewed unity, prominent leaders and stakeholders from the Ukwa-La-Ngwa bloc have reaffirmed their loyalty to the immediate past Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, urging him to take up the mantle of political leadership once more and serve as the rallying point for the people of the Old Aba Division.
The declaration was made during an exclusive and well-attended meeting held at Dr. Ikpeazu’s country home in Umuobiakwa, Obingwa Local Government Area. The gathering brought together political leaders across party lines in what many have described as a strategic healing process following the divisive 2023 general elections.
Speakers at the meeting including Chief Chinwe Nwanganga, Mrs. Elizabeth Esochaghi, Elder Obioma Nna, and Rt. Hon. Emeka Stanley unanimously appealed to Dr. Ikpeazu to rise above past political grievances and resume his role as the undisputed leader of the Ukwa-La-Ngwa people.
Articulating the group’s resolution, former Commissioner for Information, Chief Don Ubani, described the gathering as a reaffirmation of trust in Dr. Ikpeazu’s leadership, transcending political affiliations and personal interests.
“In 2023, something happened that did not favor our people. But today, we are here to reaffirm our trust in you. You are our leader, our compass, our destination. We are not just asking we are demanding that you lead us. We have no alternative. At both the national and state levels, you remain our rudder. Wherever you go, we will follow.”

“You broke a 40-year-old jinx by becoming the first Ukwa-La-Ngwa governor. Your administration opened doors for the poor, empowered our people, and used appointments strategically to fight poverty. Unfortunately, such opportunities no longer exist under the current administration,” he said.
In a deeply reflective response, Dr. Ikpeazu expressed gratitude for the overwhelming show of support and assured the stakeholders of his willingness to rise to the occasion.
“I hold no grudge against anyone. No personal injuries were done to me. What happened in 2023 was not about me, it was a collective setback to our shared vision for a fairer, more inclusive Abia. Those who didn’t align with that vision simply hadn’t seen the light. But now, it’s time to move forward.”
The former governor highlighted the importance of unity within the Ukwa-La-Ngwa bloc and stressed the need for a renewed drive to reclaim their rightful place in the political and economic affairs of Abia State.
“Our people remain greatly shortchanged under the current dispensation. But we cannot afford to remain divided. I have no option but to rise to the occasion and I will, with strategy and purpose.”
“A true leader ensures that both the vessel and its passengers reach shore safely. Leadership has been thrust upon me again not by request, but by destiny and I will not shy away.”
Political observers believe the meeting marks the beginning of a strategic reset for the Ukwa-La-Ngwa bloc. Many interpret the gathering as a signal that Dr. Ikpeazu may be preparing to play a central role in Abia’s evolving political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The renewed unity among Ukwa-La-Ngwa leaders is being seen as a potential game-changer one that could reshape the future political dynamics of Abia State.
