…Police restrict traffic movement, residents urged to remain, cooperate with security operatives | #NwokeukwuMascot

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday arrived Anambra State for a high-profile visit, triggering heightened security measures and partial restrictions on vehicular movement across the state.
The Anambra State Police Command, in a statement issued by its spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, announced the restrictions as part of a broader security arrangement aimed at ensuring a hitch-free presidential visit.
“The Anambra State Police Command, on behalf of other security agencies, seeks the cooperation of Ndi Anambra as they welcome His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, to the state today, 8th May 2025,” the statement read.
Ikenga added that there would be a partial adjustment of traffic flow across parts of the state. “Please bear with us,” he appealed.
The police also urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, emphasizing the collective responsibility of ensuring public safety.
“The Command enjoins the good people of Anambra to continue to partner and support the police and other security agencies in their task of making the state safe for everyone,” Ikenga noted.
President Tinubu’s visit is expected to feature the commissioning of major infrastructure projects and closed-door meetings with key political leaders and community stakeholders.
His arrival comes amid mounting security concerns in Anambra and the wider South-East region, where a series of violent attacks by unidentified gunmen have sparked anxiety among the populace.
Authorities have blamed the resurgence of violence on the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a separatist group banned under former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. However, IPOB has consistently denied any involvement in criminal activities within the region.
In a bid to restore normalcy, the Anambra State government, in collaboration with security agencies, has intensified joint operations, including targeted raids on suspected criminal hideouts and increased patrols in volatile areas.
As Anambra welcomes the President, all eyes remain on the unfolding developments and the outcomes of his engagements in the state.
