This development comes just a day after the commission clarified that ADA a proposed political platform backed by a coalition of opposition figures had not yet fulfilled all requirements for registration.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, made the disclosure in a statement issued on Wednesday, where he revealed that the commission had received a total of 110 letters of intent from various political associations.
“As at Monday, 23rd June 2025, the Commission has received letters of intent from 110 associations that wish to register as political parties,” the statement read. “We are diligently processing the requests in line with procedures outlined in the law, as well as our Regulations and Guidelines.”
Prof. Yakubu further stated that INEC had acknowledged all but six of the applications received recently, noting that the remaining acknowledgements would be issued before the end of the week.
He also urged stakeholders interested in party registration to consult the Commission’s official documentation: “For emphasis, I wish to inform Nigerians, particularly those interested in registering new political parties, that the handbook containing the Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties 2022 is already available on the Commission’s website.”
The move is expected to reshape the political landscape as the 2027 elections draw closer, especially with the potential emergence of new platforms like ADA that aim to challenge the dominance of existing major parties.
