The decision was announced on Monday after the party’s 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja.
Briefing journalists, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said the resolution was based on the recommendations of the Zoning Committee chaired by Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri.
He added that the NEC also endorsed retaining the current zoning arrangement of the National Working Committee (NWC) ahead of the party’s elective convention in November.
According to him: “NEC recommended that the North and South should retain their current NWC positions. “NEC also resolved that since the National Chairman of the party is zoned to the North, the PDP 2027 presidential ticket is hereby zoned to the South.”
Ologunagba further stated that the NEC expressed confidence in the level of preparations for the forthcoming convention.
Meanwhile, It was widely reported that PDP governors held a closed-door meeting on Saturday at the Government House in Gusau, Zamfara State. Although the agenda was not publicly disclosed, the meeting was believed to have focused on pressing national issues, internal party strategy, and preparations for the 2027 polls.
The PDP National Executive Committee convention is scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025.
The development comes at a time of heightened political activity across Nigeria, with major parties already positioning themselves for the next electoral cycle. For the PDP, which has been out of power at the federal level since 2015, the challenge of maintaining internal cohesion remains a critical factor as it strategizes for 2027.
