JUST IN: Governors Fintiri, Mutfwang Distance Themselves from Move to Expel Wike, Fayose, Anyanwu from PDP | #NwokeukwuMascot

Two key Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors have publicly dissociated themselves from the push to expel the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and other prominent party leaders, warning that such actions could further destabilize the already fractured party.

Adamawa State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who is the chairman of the conflicting congress in a strongly worded statement released on his X handle on Friday, declared that he does not support the controversial move to remove Wike from the PDP. He stressed that the decision neither aligns with his position nor serves the long-term interest of the party.

“I wish to categorically state that I dissociate myself from the position of expelling the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, @GovWike, from the PDP,” Fintiri stated. “I believe that this decision is not in the best interest of the party, and I will not be party to any attempt that could further plunge the PDP into unending crisis.”

Fintiri reaffirmed his commitment to peace-building within the party, insisting that unity and reconciliation not punitive measures remain the only viable path forward.

“As a faithful party member, my position is clear: I stand for the peace and stability of the PDP… I urge all stakeholders to work towards healing the divisions within the party,” he added.

In a similar development, Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has also distanced himself from the motion seeking the expulsion of Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, former PDP National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and others.

According to a statement signed by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, Governor Mutfwang clarified that the matter was neither discussed at the PDP Governors Forum nor presented at the National Executive Committee (NEC) before it surfaced.

He emphasized that the proposal does not represent his stance, adding that initiating expulsions at a time when the PDP is grappling with serious internal challenges would be counterproductive.

“Expelling party leaders at this crucial time is not a strategic step toward resolving the internal challenges currently confronting the PDP,” the statement noted. “The Governor reiterates the need for unity, dialogue, and collective effort in rebuilding and repositioning the party.”

The open resistance from both governors underscores the widening cracks within the PDP as members struggle to reconcile competing interests and reestablish a unified front.

For now, Fintiri and Mutfwang’s positions signal a growing pushback from party stakeholders who believe that healing not fragmentation remains the surest path to reviving the PDP ahead of future political battles.
