Abuja, The National Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party met in Abuja today to address growing concerns over actions that have threatened the unity, stability, and constitutional order of the party. With Nigerians looking to the PDP for leadership, the meeting emphasized the party’s commitment to discipline, rule of law, and ethical governance.

The NEC expressed serious concern over certain members who allegedly defied court orders by organizing an unauthorized convention. These actions, the committee noted, have caused confusion, encouraged factionalism, and contributed to the defection of governors and legislators across the country. NEC affirmed that the PDP derives its legitimacy from adherence to its Constitution and that of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, not from impunity or personal ambition.

The committee reviewed a report from the Acting National Chairman, Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, highlighting violations of the PDP Constitution, including anti-party activities, defiance of court directives, and conduct bringing the party into disrepute. NEC approved the start of disciplinary procedures against 17 individuals, including Adolphus Wabara, Olabode George, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki SAN, Seyi Makinde, Bala Mohammed, and Udom Emmanuel, among others.

The committee also directed Chief Ali Odefa to refund all salaries and allowances collected after his expulsion on December 12, 2024. These actions are intended to restore order and uphold discipline within the party.

NEC ratified the dissolution of State Congresses in Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, Edo, and Ekiti, instructing the National Working Committee to set up caretaker committees and organize fresh congresses without delay.

For pending congresses in Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Delta, Bayelsa, and Taraba, the committee mandated full compliance with INEC guidelines, the Electoral Act, and the PDP Constitution to ensure transparency and fairness.

In a decisive move, NEC instructed the party’s legal team and NWC to take immediate constitutional action to reclaim seats of all elected officials who defected from the PDP, in line with relevant sections of the 1999 Constitution.

To heal divisions and rebuild trust, NEC approved a nationwide reconciliation initiative while emphasizing that discipline will not be compromised. A membership audit and revalidation exercise will also commence across the country in preparation for the 2027 elections.

The committee acknowledged members’ anxieties but assured the PDP faithful that these decisions are aimed at strengthening and stabilizing the party. NEC declared that the era of indiscipline is over and that the party will not succumb to lawlessness or personal ambition.

With renewed purpose, discipline, and unity, the PDP plans to restore public confidence and emerge stronger ahead of the next electoral cycle.
