Abia PDP Dismisses Wabara’s Invitation to Governor Otti, Reaffirms Party Discipline | #NwokeukwuMascot

In a strongly worded statement signed by the State Chairman of the party, Elder Abraham Amah, the Abia PDP described the claim as misleading and devoid of any legal or political foundation. The party stressed that Senator Wabara, having been expelled from the PDP, lacks the standing, authority, or legitimacy to speak for, represent, or extend invitations on behalf of the party under any circumstances.
The statement partly read:
“The Abia State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken note of recent media reports in which the expelled former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of our party, Senator Adolphus Wabara, purportedly claimed to be inviting His Excellency, the Governor of Abia State, to join the PDP as a pathway to securing a second-term ticket. We wish to state clearly and unequivocally that an expelled member of the PDP lacks the standing, authority, or legitimacy to speak for, invite into, or represent our great party under any circumstances.”
The party clarified that Senator Wabara’s expulsion remains valid and enforceable, noting that attempts to cloak himself with relevance by aligning with the so-called Turaki faction do not alter his status. According to the statement, the faction’s Ibadan convention failed to meet the statutory requirements of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and, as such, its outcome has not been recognised by the electoral body.
The statement continued:
“For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Wabara’s expulsion remains extant, and attempts to diminish or sidestep this reality by aligning with the Turaki faction do not confer legitimacy. It is on record that the said faction’s Ibadan convention failed to meet the requirements of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the statutory body charged with the supervision of political parties in Nigeria, and consequently its outcome has not been recognised. While Senator Wabara and his associates may continue to nurse their grievances, they do not possess the mandate or licence to act on behalf of the PDP for any purpose whatsoever.”
While acknowledging that every Nigerian citizen is entitled to exercise constitutional rights within the bounds of the law, the Abia PDP cautioned against what it described as attempts to manufacture political relevance or create a “soft landing” for personal or fraternal interests by falsely invoking the party’s name.
The party stated:
“We further emphasize that any individual, including Senator Wabara, is at liberty to exercise his constitutional rights and privileges within the bounds of the law. However, any attempt to create a soft landing for personal or fraternal interests by speaking in the name of the PDP is inappropriate and misleading.”
The statement concluded by reaffirming the party’s commitment to internal democracy and due process, emphasizing that the Abia PDP remains focused on rebuilding and strengthening its structures, adhering strictly to the party’s constitution, and engaging constructively with the people of Abia State and Nigerians at large.
“The PDP in Abia State remains focused on strengthening its structures, upholding due process, and engaging constructively with the Nigerian people in accordance with the law and the party’s constitution.”
