Christmas: Lawmaker Erondu Jnr Urges Compassion for Vulnerable Nigerians | #NwokeukwuMascot

The Chairman, House Committee on Public Service Matters, Abia State House of Assembly, Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr, has called on Nigerians to remember families facing hunger, joblessness, and insecurity this Christmas, saying that the true meaning of the season lies in compassion translated into concrete action.

In a statement issued by his Spokesperson; George Egejuru, and made available to newsmen, the lawmaker described Christmas as more than a celebration of joy, but a time to renew commitment to service, empathy, and responsible leadership amid prevailing socio-economic challenges.

The former Chairman, Obingwa Local Government Council, expressed concern that millions of families worldwide, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa and Nigeria, according to World Bank, have continue to live in extreme poverty, struggling daily to access food, shelter, education, healthcare, and basic dignity.

The lawmaker representing Obingwa-West State Constituency, noted that every poverty statistic reflects a real human story, from mothers striving to feed their children to young people denied education and families pushed to the brink by illness.

He stressed that governance must be guided by empathy, credible data, and policies that deliver tangible improvements in people’s daily lives.

The former Director of Enyimba FC urged governments at all levels, as well as well-meaning Nigerians, to emulate the sacrificial life of Jesus Christ by extending support to indigent and vulnerable groups during the Yuletide.

He emphasized that sustained investment in education, primary healthcare; particularly maternal and child health and early childhood development remains the surest path to breaking the cycle of poverty.

The Uhie-born lawmaker, thanked his constituents for their support over the past two and a half years, assuring them of his continued commitment to quality representation, attracting dividends of democracy, improving rural infrastructure, and uplifting vulnerable households.

He wished his constituents, Abians and Nigerians at large a peaceful Christmas, praying that the season rekindles unity, compassion, and renewed dedication to public service and shared prosperity.
