INEC Rejects Turaki-Led PDP NWC, Cites Court Judgments | #NwokeukwuMascot

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally declined to recognise the Kabiru Turaki–led National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing subsisting court judgments and unresolved legal processes surrounding the party’s leadership crisis.

In a letter dated December 22, 2025, and signed by its Secretary, Dr. Rose Oriaran-Anthony, the electoral body stated that it could not accede to requests to acknowledge or upload on its official website the list of national officers purportedly elected at the PDP National Convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

INEC explained that its position was firmly guided by existing court rulings and pending litigation related to the ongoing leadership disputes within the PDP. According to the commission, recognising or acting on the claims of any faction would amount to prejudging matters that are still before competent courts.

The commission stressed that it would be improper and contrary to due process to accord recognition to any factional leadership while the legal issues remain unresolved, reaffirming its commitment to the rule of law and judicial authority.

INEC’s stance further deepens the uncertainty surrounding the PDP’s national leadership, as the party continues to grapple with internal divisions awaiting final judicial determination.
