SEV2050: Lawmaker Erondu Jnr Urges Collective Action to Drive South-East Prosperity | #NwokeukwuMascot

The Chairman, House Committee on Public Service Matters, Abia State House of Assembly,
Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr, has described the South East Vision 2050 (SEV2050) as a defining framework for repositioning the region within Nigeria and the global economy.

Speaking with newsmen at the South-East Vision 2050 Regional Stakeholder Forum organised by the South East Development Commission (SEDC) at the International Conference Centre, Enugu, the lawmaker representing Obingwa-West State Constituency said the four-day engagement signals a shift from fragmented efforts to a coordinated, long-term development blueprint.

Erondu Jnr noted that SEV2050 is a deliberate move to align the South-East with global development standards through structured planning that prioritises industrialisation, innovation and inclusive growth.

“The year 2050 gives us the horizon to plan generational infrastructure, industrial clusters, technology hubs and SME expansion in a way that attracts national and international investment,” he said.

The former Chairman, Obingwa LGA Abia State, expressed hope that the initiative would reposition the South-East as a manufacturing hub, a centre for technology and innovation, and a preferred destination for diaspora investment and strategic partnerships.

He explained that the forum features sectoral breakout sessions, policy workshops and stakeholder consultations designed to produce a comprehensive South East Development Masterplan (2025–2050).

“A vision without execution remains rhetoric. SEV2050 is laying the foundation for measurable and accountable development,” Erondu Jnr stated.

Highlighting its non-partisan nature, he described the forum as a broad-based regional platform bringing together youth leaders, academics, civil society groups, traditional institutions, investors and diaspora representatives.

Addressing concerns about the Commission’s operations, the Abia lawmaker said the SEDC has been working under a clear presidential mandate since July 2024 to restore the region’s industrial strength and competitiveness.

He stressed that industrialisation remains central to the agenda, with focus on reviving dormant assets, establishing special economic zones, improving power and logistics infrastructure, and boosting export-oriented production across the five South-East states.

Erondu Jnr urged stakeholders at home and abroad to embrace the initiative, describing SEV2050 as a generational project anchored on unity, discipline and shared responsibility.

“Regional transformation does not happen by chance. It happens by design and collective commitment”, he said.

Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his remarks, emphasized that SEV2050 should not stand alone but be aligned with the national Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing coordinated policy action between the federal government, states, and regional institutions.

Represented by the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, he identified them to include; infrastructure development, job creation, industrial growth, and increased investment, adding that they are critical pillars of this administration’s strategic economic reforms.

Other prominent stakeholders who attended the meeting include the Governor of Enugu State, Mr. Peter Mbah; the Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru; the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo; the Governor of Imo State, represented by the Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon.
