Governor Otti Bows to Pressure, Congratulates Predecessor Ikpeazu on Ambassadorial Appointment | #NwokeukwuMascot

The Governor of Abia State, Alex Chioma Otti, has congratulated the immediate past Governor of the state, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, following his appointment as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.


In a statement issued by the governor’s Media Adviser, Ferdinand Ekeoma, Governor Otti extended his goodwill to his predecessor, describing the appointment as an opportunity for Dr. Ikpeazu to serve the country at the diplomatic level.


The statement, which Ekeoma shared on Facebook under the caption “Governor Otti Felicitates With Dr. Ikpeazu on His Appointment as Ambassador,” read in part:


“The Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr Alex Otti, OFR, has felicitated with the immediate past Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, on his appointment and posting as the Nigerian Ambassador to Spain.


“In a goodwill message to felicitate with the former governor, Governor Otti described the appointment as an opportunity for Dr. Ikpeazu to serve the nation at the diplomatic level while protecting the interests of Nigerians in Spain.


“Governor Otti, while thanking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the appointment, requested the Federal Government to provide Dr. Ikpeazu and other newly appointed ambassadors with all the necessary support to succeed in their diplomatic assignments.


“Finally, Governor Otti, on behalf of his family, the government and people of Abia State, wishes Dr. Ikpeazu a fruitful and impactful service to the nation.”



The governor’s congratulatory message comes four days after President Tinubu announced Dr. Ikpeazu’s appointment and posting to Spain.



The delay in the congratulatory message had earlier generated reactions among some Abia residents on social media, with several commentators accusing Governor Otti of maintaining silence due to alleged political differences with his predecessor.




Observers note that the congratulatory message followed a wave of public commentary and pressure from stakeholders and citizens of the state who urged the governor to formally acknowledge the appointment.



Meanwhile, the Abia State chapters of both the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress, as well as several prominent leaders and stakeholders across party lines, had earlier congratulated the former governor on his diplomatic appointment.
