APC Raises Alarm Over Alleged Destruction of Tinubu, Kalu Billboards in Abia | #NwokeukwuMascot

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has raised serious concerns over the alleged destruction of campaign billboards belonging to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, in Bende Local Government Area of the state.



In a statement issued by the APC Publicity Secretary in Abia State, Uche Aguoru, titled “Abia State Government Should Stop Destroying President Tinubu’s Billboards. Enough Is Enough,” the party alleged that more than 15 campaign billboards were deliberately destroyed.



The statement partly read “It has been brought to the attention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State the intentional and unprovoked destruction of over 15 campaign billboards belonging to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, in Bende Local Government Area.



“Preliminary investigations carried out by the party reveal that this act, which was allegedly carried out in the early hours of Tuesday, was perpetrated by agents of the ruling Labour Party in apparent alliance with the state government.



“This development further validates the alerts we have consistently raised concerning the plans by the losing Nvosi faction of the Labour Party to incite violence, create political crisis, and raise political tension in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.”



The statement also recalled a previous remark attributed to Governor Alex Otti during a live broadcast, in which the APC alleged that the governor told those opposing his administration to “write their wills.”



The party further alleged that the state government had been sponsoring what it described as violent political skits, while some government officials and their sympathisers had allegedly threatened citizens and opposition parties against campaigning against the governor.



The APC claimed that such alleged actions were intended to intimidate opposition parties and their supporters ahead of the 2027 general elections.



“These actions are clearly aimed at frightening and intimidating the opposition, apparently because the factional ruling Labour Party is aware that they have lost the confidence and support of Abians and will face the consequences at the 2027 general elections in the state,” the statement alleged.



The party, however, called on its members and supporters to remain calm and law-abiding, urging them not to take the law into their own hands.



“As a responsible political party committed to the peace, welfare, security, and overall development of Abia State, we wish to encourage our numerous supporters to remain calm and law-abiding and not take the law into their own hands,” the statement said.



The APC disclosed that it had already alerted relevant security agencies and would escalate the matter to the Presidency, particularly because some of the billboards allegedly destroyed belonged to President Tinubu.



The party therefore called the attention of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, to what it described as persistent attempts by the state government and elements within the Labour Party to intimidate, harass and suppress opposition political parties and their supporters.



The APC warned that the alleged destruction of campaign materials and attacks on opposition political activities were unacceptable and should stop immediately.



“We will no longer sit back and watch a faction of the Labour Party, apparently frustrated by its political miscalculations and governance failures, vent its frustration on innocent and law-abiding citizens, destroy our campaign materials, and attack billboards belonging to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other candidates of our party,” the statement added.



The party reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights of its members and supporters through lawful means, defending democratic participation and ensuring that Abians are not intimidated or harassed because of their political affiliations.



“The APC will continue to stand firmly with its supporters and will use every lawful means available to protect their rights, defend democratic participation, and ensure that the people of Abia are not intimidated or harassed. Enough is Enough,” the statement concluded.
