BREAKING: Court Reinstates Samuel Bamidele Aro as APC Kogi West Senatorial Candidate, Orders Immediate Submission of His Name to INEC | #NwokeukwuMascot

The Federal High Court has restored the name of Hon. Samuel Bamidele Aro as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Kogi West Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections, overturning his controversial substitution with incumbent Senator Sunday Karimi.

In a judgment delivered today, November 4, 2026, Justice Salim Ibrahim of the Federal High Court ordered the APC to immediately submit the name of the plaintiff, Hon. Samuel Bamidele Aro, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s authentic candidate for the Kogi West Senatorial District.

Aro had reportedly emerged victorious at the party’s senatorial primary election held on May 18, 2026. However, his name was subsequently substituted with that of Senator Sunday Karimi through a letter reportedly forwarded to INEC by the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda.

The substitution had generated controversy, particularly over the circumstances surrounding the decision to replace a candidate who had emerged through the party’s primary election.

Documents relating to the APC’s review of its senatorial primary election appeal committee reports, dated June 26, 2026, and signed by Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, identified Senator Sunday Karimi as the candidate for Kogi West, while listing Aro Samuel Bamidele as the former candidate.

The document, titled “All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial Candidates Declared After Review of Appeal Committee Reports, 2026,” also reflected changes involving other senatorial districts across the country.

Apart from Kogi West, the document listed candidate substitutions in Abia South, Benue North-East, Benue North-West, Taraba North, Ondo Central and Ondo North senatorial districts.

However, the latest court decision has now overturned the substitution affecting Kogi West, restoring Aro’s candidacy and directing the APC to immediately forward his name to INEC, effectively compelling the party to recognise him as its candidate for the senatorial district.

The judgment represents a significant development in the APC’s internal political contest in Kogi State and reinforces the importance of due process in the conduct of party primaries and the emergence of candidates.

With the court’s directive, attention will now turn to the APC leadership and INEC over the immediate implementation of the judgment and the formal recognition of Aro as the party’s candidate for Kogi West.
