PDP Expels Ude Okochukwu, Others from Party Platforms After Endorsement of Gov. Otti, Labour Party Defection Plot Unveiled | #NwokeukwuMascot

Umuahia, Abia State
– The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has removed former Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Okochukwu, and several others from all party platforms over multiple counts of anti-party activities, including a secret endorsement of Governor Alex Otti and plans to defect to his faction of the Labour Party.

Party insiders revealed that Okochukwu, who served two terms as Deputy Governor under Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, recently held a private meeting with Governor Otti where he reportedly pledged support for the governor’s re-election bid in 2027. During the meeting, Okochukwu also hinted at his imminent defection to the Labour Party, confirming earlier reports that he had been promised the Abia North senatorial ticket by Otti’s faction of the party.

This latest revelation confirms our earlier exclusive publication detailing Okochukwu’s behind-the-scenes political maneuvering and quiet realignment with Labour Party interests. Sources say the meeting between both men was held under strict confidentiality, but its outcome has already rippled through the political corridors of the state.

In response, the PDP in Abia State has taken swift action by removing Okochukwu and his key allies from all internal platforms and forums, citing “sustained acts of sabotage and disloyalty.” The party accused Okochukwu of working to dismantle its grassroots structure in Abia North while feigning loyalty.

Among those affected by the purge are several coordinators allegedly recruited by Okochukwu to carry out his defection agenda and mobilize PDP members into the Labour Party. They include Obike Mascot Imo (Bende), Barr. Olughu O. Kalu (Ohafia), Obinna Ekekwe (Isuikwuato), and Fabian Nwankwo and John Okoro (Umunneochi and Arochukwu respectively). Notably, Nwankwo and Okoro are already Labour Party affiliates.

Efforts to destabilize PDP structures in the region, party sources claim, have been ongoing for months, with Okochukwu setting up clandestine recruitment cells under the guise of party mobilization.

Also drawing condemnation was Okochukwu’s alleged backdoor lobbying for the governorship ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which was rejected by the party’s national leadership.

Speaking anonymously, a high-ranking PDP official said: “The party had every reason to believe Sir Ude was still with us, only to discover he had gone as far as endorsing our political rival in private. That level of betrayal cannot be tolerated.”

It will be recalled that Okochukwu’s relationship with his former principal, Governor Ikpeazu, broke down irreparably in the lead-up to the 2023 elections after he allegedly withheld his governorship ambition from his boss. Reports suggest the former deputy governor’s aspiration was discovered only after a retired military officer he contacted informed Ikpeazu.

In response to the disciplinary action, PDP Chairman in Abia State, Elder Amah Abraham, declined to provide specifics but confirmed that the party was undergoing a strategic cleansing. “We are strengthening our internal systems ahead of 2027,” he said. “Any form of disloyalty or sabotage will be met with firm action. The PDP remains open to progressives, not pretenders.”

Political observers now question how Okochukwu, widely regarded as politically calculating, plans to coexist under Governor Otti, a leader known for his tight grip on power and low tolerance for political rivals.

As realignments continue ahead of 2027, the fallout from Okochukwu’s quiet defection has added a new layer of intrigue to Abia’s evolving political narrative.
